What is it?
Moles are common skin growths that may be skin-coloured, brown, or black. While most are harmless, some may change in appearance or become uncomfortable. Rarely, moles can become cancerous. Dr Tina can identify different types of moles, including congenital moles present from birth, and atypical moles that can resemble melanoma. Mole removal may be recommended for diagnosis, symptom relief, or cosmetic reasons.
How we treat it
- Full skin check using a dermatoscope (a special magnifying tool to assess skin structures in more detail)
- Mole removal by shave or surgical excision under local anaesthetic (numbing the area)
- If needed, the mole is sent to a laboratory for testing (histology)
